How did Beardy Nature grow to add Beardy Events?
It all began with a favor for a friend, snapping a few photos for a local theatre group’s Christmas panto to share on social media. Now, I work alongside the marketing team as the volunteer production and show photographer for SATS (Stoke Amateur Theatre Society), covering pantomimes, shows, outdoor events, an adult panto, over 200 cast headshots, and countless rehearsal sessions.d.
I enjoy the challenge of event and show photography; to me, the fundamentals aren’t all that different from wildlife photography. My camera needs to be ready, I have to adjust settings on the fly, anticipate what’s about to happen, and react quickly or risk missing the shot. All of this was credited under my Beardy Nature branding through social media, local press, or testimonials that didn’t quite match the images. That’s when I decided to create a new brand that better reflected the work I was producing, and so the photography journey continues.
I’ve expanded this branch of my photography to cover images for social media, print, and websites for theatre groups, bands, theatre festivals, local charities, community projects, award ceremonies, fundraising events, and even an orchestra. Alongside that, I’ve added food photography, family events, pet portraits, and a variety of other creative projects. A big part of my event photography is offered free to individuals, community organizations, and charities. It’s a great way for me to gain valuable experience, learn new skills, and give back to the community, while helping them promote their work without the expense of hiring a photographer.
