Back in the early 2000s, I purchased a digital SLR camera and began to take pictures. It was a second-hand Samsung / Pentax that started my in photography journey.
I loved being out with my camera, taking pictures of anything and everything. Then in 2005 my son arrived, and I suddenly had a person who didn’t mind me sticking a camera in his face.
It sort of developed from there. While being out in parks and on days out, I started taking pictures of the things around me. I've always had an interest in the natural world, and it grew from there. I started to look for things to take pictures of, including colourful flowers, insects, and birds, as well as the daily 200 pictures of my son playing and growing up.
Then in 2014, my mental health hit rock bottom and everything changed. From there I used photography as a road back to getting back to some sort of normal. I was out most days using the quiet time to figure out life and take a few pictures. This is where my interest in nature rocketed and I would sometimes sit for hours waiting for something to click in my head or something to land, fly past or appear in front of my camera. This gave me some space to breathe and try and put my head back on straight some days with varying degrees of success.
And so the journey continues. Still chasing nature & wildlife wherever I can find it and the time to get outside, using the space to reset and learn about the local natural world. With the help of friends, family, and my amazing wife. I am able to take pictures, spend time outside and getting help and support.
